The AppleSeed

Overall Background

This is a 5 week game design project produced by Death Noise Studio with unity. It is a 2D farming simulation role-playing game inspired by the Stardew Valley. The game is about a boy named Johnny Appleseed went to his uncle’s farm and take care of it when his uncle left for a vacation. Besides planting apples, his uncle also left him with a mission to create the mysterious 'Applephone'. The video below is a trailer of the game.

Plot Design

Your beloved - albeit crazy - inventor uncle S. Jobs has asked for your help in building a new product called the 'Applephone'. He has some grand dreams for this device but he is lacking 9 crucial pieces. Your job is to gather these crucial pieces! You decide to start at a small town in Pennsylvania, your home state. Grow your apples and socialize with the locals to gain new supplies and recipes on your quest to build the apple phone!

In order to successfully collecting all the crucial items to craft the 'Applephone', player needs to interact with different NPCs in the small town. The character design details are listed below.

The world is consisted of three parts: the farm, the town,  the valley.

Feature Highlight

Tutorial & Planting System

The interactive tutorial scene is designed to familiarize the player with the world, control, and basic game mechanics. It also introduces one of the most important mechanics of the game, planting. 

Time logging System

The time system is designed mainly to assist the player with keeping track of tree growth. In addition, the time system logs day and nights, which gives the player a better sense of the reality.

Crafting System

Player can craft designated items listed in crafting book. There is a crafting station located inside the uncle's room.

Item Giving System

In order to complete various challenges of the game, player needs to give some NPCs the designated amount of items they requested.

Dialogue System

An interactive dialogue system that allows player to interact with the NPCs during conversation. Player also need to solve puzzles based on the dialogues.

Inventory System

An inventory system which all the stuffs are placed under. Player could  use the left mouse click to select and place a stack of items, and use right mouse click to separate the stack and customize the inventory.
